Boda Boda operators at Kobushera Trading Centre in Mpeefu Sub-County, Kagadi District, have elected new leadership, with the new leaders urged to promote a saving culture among riders as a way of fighting poverty and improving their livelihoods.
According to our correspondent Alex, the elections were held this afternoon at Kobushera Boda Boda Stage.
Two candidates contested for the position of chairperson: Isma Mujuni and Kennedy Muhumuza. Mujuni was declared the winner, defeating Muhumuza, who received 10 votes.
Mujuni was elected alongside other executive members, including Ezekiel Nabasa as Vice Chairperson, Naboth Niwagira as Secretary, Omuhereza Alituha Kusegarya Kamu as Vice Secretary, Eliab Tumwebaze, alias Kambucha, as Defence Secretary, and Chance Gampisi as Treasurer.
Speaking after the election, Mujuni and his executive members thanked the voters for entrusting them with leadership. They pledged to transform the association through cooperation and unity while ensuring that every member benefits from development initiatives.
Meanwhile, the LC3 Chairperson of Mpeefu Sub-County, Hon. John Kahunde, urged the newly elected leaders to serve with integrity. He called on Boda Boda operators to work together as an organised association to benefit from government programmes.
Madam Fedora Namara, a Crime Intelligence Department Officer at Kobushera Police Station, urged Boda Boda operators to maintain discipline and respect their customers.
Namara also called upon riders to cooperate with security agencies in the fight against crime, noting that some Boda Boda riders have been accused of supporting criminals in committing offences.
