Police in Oyam District are searching for a pastor who is said to have reportedly flogged and tortured a 72-year-old woman to death.
It is said that the suspect including eight others allegedly Muderd Albina Okoi who is a resident of Ajaca Village In Ngai sub county on March 4 2022 accusing her of practicing witchcraft.
Mr Jimmy Patrick Okema,the North Kyoga Regional police spokesperson confirmed the incident saying that Pastor Lawrence Aguga while conducting prayers,the spirit revealed to him that Okoi Albina had been practicing witchcraft.
Mr Okema added that Albina was forced to go to the prayer place by the pastor just kilometers away from her home as she was being beaten but unfortunately collapsed and died on the way.
"We have arrested one suspect to aid on the investigations and currently being detained at Oyam Central Police Station while 8 different others together with pastor Lawrence Aguga, Patrick Arom, Francis Ebong, Silvesto Akejo, George Otim, Tony Odongo and others solely recognized as Ongoda and Ocen are on the run. Mr Okema also warned pastors and the public saying that Uganda is not governed by spirits but the Constitution of 1995 adding that the involved persons will be charged wit murder in the courts of law when police finishes investigation.
Mr Benedict Arac, the deceased’s son is the one who informed police at Oyam Central Police Station the following day of March 5.
