Mitooma woman dies while aborting

MITOOMA - There was drama in Mitooma district after a woman died while trying to abort.

The woman (deceased) is Arineitwe Claire a resident of Bitooma 1, omunkura in Katenga Sub-county in Mitooma district. She died on Friday and her body was laid to rest at her former husband’s home in the same area on Saturday. 

Residents who talked to our reporter said the deceased was married to Ntimba until last year when they separated as the deceased accused the husband of cheating on her over and over again. 

It said that after separating with Ntimba, the deceased started a small hotel selling chai in Omunkura Trading center where she took advantage of sleeping with other men whenever she wanted. 

It was until last week when she found herself pregnant for another man who is yet to be identified and she decided to abort though things did not go her way and she passed away. 

One of her friends said the deceased wanted to abort because she feared humiliation and she had hopes of going back to stay with his husband Ntimba. She left behind 4 children.

South African artist Costa Titch dies on stage

The 27-year-old was performing one of his songs, when he collapsed on stage. Later, he stood up and continued his performance, only to collapse once again and die.

In a tragic end to an energetic music concert, a South African rapper and songwriter Costa Titch collapsed and died at a music festival in Johannesburg, stated media reports. The 27-year-old was performing one of his songs, when he collapsed on stage. Later, he stood up and continued his performance, only to collapse once again and die.

After the news, several politicians, artists, celebrities and other people have expressed their condolences, including Julius Sello Malema, a member of the South African parliament. The incident took place, when Costa Titch was performing at the Ultra South Africa music festival in Johannesburg.

The videos of the singer performing on stage minutes before his collapse have gone viral on social media. In one of the videos, shared by a Twitter user, the singer regained himself immediately after falling on stage. He even continued singing. After a few seconds, he collapsed again and didn't stood up again. Several volunteers could be seen reaching to him for help after the incident in the video. The cause of his death is currently unknown.

Who was Cosla Titch?

The rising artist of South Africa was originally known as Costa Tsobanoglou. Fondly called as Costa Titch, he originally belonged to Mbombela, a city located near the border with Swatini and Mozambique. He recently launched a remix song that featured US singer Akon. His most successful single, Big Flexa, received over 45 million views on YouTube.

His other songs like Nkalakaatha and Phezulu have also gone viral among people. During his recent interviews, Costa Titch had shared how his mother impacted his music career. He gained international recognition after he stood at 14th position in an international Hip Hop Dance competition.

Costa Titch recently collaborated with Tanzanian Bongo Flava artist Mbosso on the latter's hit song ‘Shetani Amepita’.

Notably, the tragic end of a rising rap star in the country is the latest ungrateful event in the South African music industry. A month ago, another South African rapper, Kiernan Jarryd Forbes (AKA), was shot and killed in Durban on February 10, 2023. A year ago, musician Rikhado Makhado, also known as Riky Rick, was found dead from an apparent suicide in February 2022.

26 year old woman escapes rape in Kagadi

A 26 year old woman a resident of Kyenzige cell in Kyenzige town council Kagadi district has escaped rape narrowly but survived with injuries.

The victim names withheld was allegedly attacked on Tuesdays night by men not yet indentified in her bar business located in Kyenzige town council attempting to rape her.

She narrates that the attackers first disguised themselves as customers before they started wrestling her.

She is now nursing wounds she sustained during the fight.

Kisoro leaders call for release of detained Ugandan businessman in Rwanda

Kisoro, Uganda district authorities have protested the prolonged detention of Ugandan Valence Kibyeye, a  prominent fabrics dealer in Rwanda. They have asked President Paul Kagame to intervene.

According to Kisoro authorities, Kibyeye, who deals in African Fabrics alias “Bitenge” was arrested and detained in Rwanda about two and a half years ago for alleged tax evasion.

The officials argue that there is no clear information on how Kibyeye’s case is progressing since his arrest. John Muftimukiza, the Nyarusiza Sub-county LC V councilor, says that the continued detention of Kibyeyi has enraged the people of Kisoro aginst the Rwandan government. According to Muftimukiza, Rwanda has no reason to continue detaining a person from another country without giving updates about the matter.

He wants Rwandan president Kagame to intervene and order Kibyeye’s release. Amos Hakizimana, the Kisoro District speaker, says that the continued detention of Kibyeye in Rwanda is testimony of how Ugandans are mistreated by shooting, arrest, and whipping whenever they cross to trade in Rwanda.

Hakizimana wants the Ugandan government to intervene and talk to the Rwandan government to release Kibyeye.

Abel Bizimana, the Kisoro District LC 5 Chairperson says that when Kibyeye was arrested, they expected the Rwandan authorities to present him before the court, which is yet to happen to date. Bizimana says that Kibyeyi’s four children are suffering alone at home without care because his wife died about three months back.

Eddie Kwizera Wagahungu, the Bukimbiri county member of parliament, says that he has already petitioned Uganda’s Foreign Affairs minister for intervention. However, when contacted, the Foreign Affairs State Minister, Henry Oryem Okello, said that he is not aware of the matter. He promised to follow up on the matter with the relevant authorities in Uganda and Rwanda.

Kibyeye is not the first Ugandan to face the wrath of Rwandan authorities since the closure of the border in 2019 to January 2022 on orders from president Paul Kagame. He accused Ugandan authorities of spying on Rwanda, abducting Rwandan citizens and locking them up in non-designated areas, as well as hosting and facilitating dissidents who have declared war on the Kigali administration.

The latest case happened on January 17, 2023, at the Uganda-Rwanda border of Nyakisa hill in Mpororo village, Kashekye parish in Kamwezi sub-county, Rukiga district where Rwandan operatives crossed about 50 meters on Ugandan soil and shot dead Jack Turyahikayo alias Rwakigizi accusing him of smuggling.

The operatives carried the deceased’s body back to Rwanda. On handing it over to Ugandan authorities, Rwandan officials led by Stephen Gasana, the Mayor of the Nyagatare district, and Jean Bosco Dusengimana, the Nyagatare District Police Commander argued that Turyahikayo was shot from the Tabarwe sector in Nyagatare district while smuggling when he turned violent.

However, Ugandan officials and locals led by Fred Nayebare Kyamuzigyita, the Rukiga Resident District Commissioner his deputy, Zadock Kamusiime, Hussein Niwagaba, the Rukiga District Police Commander, Robert Mbabazi Kakwerere, Rukiga District LC5 Chairman and Lieutenant Colonel Stephen Sabitti, Commanding Officer of the 33 Uganda Peoples Defense Forces (UPDF) battalion Irenga rejected the narrative. They accused Rwandan authorities of repeatedly using the same reason to shoot Ugandans without providing any evidence.

Missing Boda Boda rider found buried on roadside

A Boda Boda rider who went missing in Kumi District last month has been found buried in the swamp along Kumi-Pallisa road.

The deceased David Ochom, 18, a resident of Omodoi cell, Mukongoro Town Council, Kanyum County was reportedly hired by unknown people on February 22, 2023, to transport them to a certain destination and had never been seen.

This caused tensions among his family members and colleagues who started tracing him in vain. 

According to police preliminary investigations, the people who hired him were thugs whose motive was to rob him of his motorcycle.

“They robbed him of his motorcycle Reg. No. UFU 213F and the killing is suspected to have happened after he staged a resistance against them. His body which was found with deep cuts on the head was later buried on the roadside,” the East Kyoga regional police spokesperson, SP Ageca Oscar Gregg, said Wednesday.

He said Ochom’s body was discovered on Tuesday by the locals who had mounted a search for him. It was taken to Atutur hospital mortuary for postmortem before it was later handed over to the relatives for burial.

“The motorcycle is still missing. Suspects are on the run, but using credible leads we are on their tails,” SP Ageca said, commending the locals for their vigilance and volunteering information.

The Kumi Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Mr Ahamada Washaki appealed to Boda Boda riders to always be vigilant and report any person found with suspicious characters.

Ochom’s murder follows a new trend in the area where the riders are attacked and robbed of their motorcycles by thugs posing as passengers.

Reflecting on her experience, Rahmah states that she is grateful that she dodged a bullet.

Upcoming singer Rahmah Pinky has shared her harrowing experience of how she narrowly escaped a forced marriage on her wedding day. At the age of 17, Rahmah's parents arranged for her to marry a 50-year-old man, who promised to take care of her education and provide a better life for her in the USA.

Despite her protests, the wedding was organized with only a few guests in attendance.

In a bid to avoid the marriage, Rahmah turned to alcohol, despite being a Muslim. However, her parents remained resolute, and the ceremony continued as planned. Rahmah realized that she had to take drastic measures to avoid being forced into a life she didn't want.

While changing into her wedding dress, she ran away her life depended on it and never looked back, successfully halting the ceremony.

Rahmah's mother was committed to marrying her off, but Rahmah herself was not ready for such a commitment at such a young age.

Reflecting on her experience, Rahmah states that she is grateful that she dodged a bullet.

She hopes that other young girls never face the same ordeal.

“When I was 17 years old after my form six, my parents wanted to marry me off to an old man. I never wanted but I had nothing to do. I tried to drink the day before so I could get sick and stop everything but the ceremony went on.

My makeup was done when I was on a drip but still, I managed to run away in the middle of the party. That’s how I survived forced early marriage,” Rahma Pinky narrates.

A team from Kigezi region Ndorwa west constituency in Kabaale district last evening visited Tooro-sub- region in Kyenjojo district to acquire knowledge and adopt tips on growing new high value crops in order to eradicate poverty.

Hon David Muhumuza national chairperson for hash avocados farmers association and Major General Robert rusoke Uganda ambassador to Rwanda ushered a team of 14 people fully facilitated by Hon. David Bahati state minister for trade, industry and cooperatives at Njojo agro based industries limited in Nyaruzigati-kyembogo sub-county Kyenjojo district.

During the workshop 14 farmers from 8 sub-counties of Ndorwa West County in Kabaale district and other 6 people from Kyegegwa, and Masindi districts were instructed on how to manage hash avocados from nursery bed up to the period of harvesting.

One day training, farmers visited Njojo farm in Kembogo sub-county Kyenjojo district and Humuza agro processors farm located in Kyaterekera town council Kagadi district.

Hon Muhumuza David who also doubles as mp Mwenge North constituency has challenged farmers to plant hass avocados assuring not get worried of the market and he promised to collaborate with government to increase on distribution of seedlings.

Mrs. Angel Rusoke the director Njojo agro based industries thanked the government for through NAADs which has reduced the cost of seedlings despite challenges of root rot and water stress more especially in dry season.

Mrs. Rusoke says, they purposely established Njojo farm with a vision to a center for social and economic transformation through creation of jobs to both skilled and unskilled labor, and providing training service to out-growers.

Participants headed by Mr. Wilber Kanyesigye political assistant to Hon David Bahati shortly after the workshop they explained that knowledge acquired will help them to effectively use financial resources, start and maintain their own gardens and subsequently household revenues.

They have thanked lawmakers for the partnership aiming to fight poverty.
